Hike up to a mountain viewpoint over the city and explore the Highland Cow's natural environment.
The Highland Cows roam freely over a large area of hillside overlooking Edinburgh. We take our time looking for the cows, and enjoying the scenery. Sometimes the cows are easy to find, sometimes they decide they want to be at the top of the hill. Be prepared for steep, rocky paths and grassy slopes.

Time and Location:
- Meet: 9:45 am — Ready to start the hike at 10 am
Usually the whole hike takes about 2 - 3 hours

We meet by the map in the car park
Please bring:
- Hiking shoes/boots
- Waterproof jacket
- Water
- Hat and gloves
Route & Terrain:
- Distance: 6km (3.8 miles)
- 350m (1,100 feet) of elevation
- Paths are steep, rocky, and loose
Occasionally, the route may need to be adapted due to the weather conditions or group members
Highland Cows:
The Highland Cows graze freely on the hillside, so we won’t know exactly where they are. Finding them is part of the fun.
There are more cows at the farm at the end of the hike.

There are no toilets anywhere on the route
